Purpose of the Award: To identify and recognize outstanding educational programs, methods,
techniques and activities integrated into the curriculum that provide the stimulus for, and give visibility to, Family and Consumer Sciences education.
Eligibility: To qualify for the PAFCS TOY, the candidate must be employed as a full-time, permanent Family and Consumer Sciences teacher in grades K-12 at the time the nomination is submitted. A minimum of three year’s membership in AAFCS/PAFCS is required.
Program Focus
The objective of the Teacher of the Year Award Program is to stimulate the development of state of the art programs that are both timely and newsworthy and serve the needs of the students, the school and the community. Each nominated program should be focused on one of the five following program areas as identified by AAFCS guidelines:
- Career Awareness/Job Skill Training
- Consumer Education/Family Finance
- Creative Dimensions/Alternative Program Designs
- Family Life/Personal and Social Development
- Nutrition Education/Diet and Health
Within these broad categories, there can be many possibilities. You may contact the TOY chair

A nomination may be submitted for a teaching unit, a semester program, or a new program suitable for integration into an existing course.
Instructions for Making a Nomination:
- Candidates may self-nominate or be nominated by a colleague or administrator.
- Complete all required information on the following pages. Attach copies of the
program narrative, the letters of recommendation and any other supportive
materials.
